Burden in representation

The history of a social realism film can weigh on the shoulders of new film makers & producers. Films have changed in terms of representation due to a result of immmigration. Since there are so few images negative ones can have devastating effects on the real life of marginslised people.

For example Koop in Human traffic:
-sociable & happy
-says the word niggers which is a sterotypical nickname for black people although usually it is seen as negative
-dances with the soundtrack which links to a common view that black people can dance well
-care free attitude at work
-lies to sell record
-meet him in a lit room so he seems to be light hearted

Ferdy:
-swears a lot
-dresses like a ganster in dark clothes
-sells drugs
-presented negativly
-slaves as used for drugs
-seen in a dark alleyway thus seems like a shady character
